Time to tighten up the law on litter

CHARLES Paterson, Do travellers get special treatment? Letters, July 19, is right to be concerned about the disgraceful behaviour of certain travellers.
Is it not time that the law should be tightened, making it a criminal offence for people to leave their mess on land which they do not own? Why should taxpayers have to pay for it to be cleared up? If they had to pay on-the-spot fines they would think twice about such disgusting activities.
